double click to highlight word in Microsoft Word for Mac

Suddenly, I have lost the capability to double click on a word or triple click for larger selection to highlight it for editing. The suggestions from Microsoft don't help because I don't have the icon they tell me to click on to start with!! Someone help me, please!

iOS 8 does not run on MacBook Pros. OS 8 refers to the 1998 Mac operating systems. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac and find your Mac OS X version. Then post in the correct forum below:

That is more likely to get you someone who is using your version of Office, than anyone in the Classic operating system realm.
